FAQs - School

Where is IDPL school and what type of school is it?

IDPL school is in IDPL colony (Balanagar, Hyderabad, AP, India). IDPL school was run by management of IDPL (Indian Drugs and Pharmaceutical Ltd) for few decades for children of IDPL employees. Till recently ICFAI foundation is running the school as a charity school for kids from low income families. But from academic year 2012, ICFAI support to the school has ended. A group of ex-IDPL students have come forward to take over the management of the school from ICFAI and continue to operate the school especially for needy kids. IDPL alumni is being engaged as part of this initiative.

Why have IDPL alumni taken over IDPL School?

As the IDPL Hyderabad plant was closed during 1990s, IDPL school was also closed. ICFAI which had run the school from the year 2007 withdrew its financial support to the school, due to change of focus in their organization. Students in the school, who cannot afford private schools, most of them would have discontinued their education. When a group of IDPL alumni came to know of this closure and its consequences, they have decided to adopt the school, helping the kids form low income families continue their education.

How do IDPL alumni run the school?

IDPL Alumni spreads across multiple continents and members in several walks to of life are successful, both individually and/or professionally. The depth and breadth of this alumni is too deep and a highly valuable asset to run the school. An active core team of IDPL alumni will be responsible for the day to day activities and management of the school. Donations by IDPL alumni/IDPL employees are crucial for this initiative.

Also donations from other charitable organizations, corporations are always welcome. Individuals who want to make a real difference with quality education for poor/deprived kids can make a big impact on this initiative.

Why is it called One Initiative – One Location?

As IDPL school alumni, our focus currently is singular – to run our school with all our energy and passion, and to fulfill our goal of providing high quality education for those kids, who would otherwise not be able to afford it. What better way to give back to our alma mater, our one and only IDPL school, where we all played as One, studied as One, and were taught as One. And we hope to provide the same to these kids through this one initiative.

What is the current student strength in the school?

School is about 700 students from UKG to Class X.

Intermediate college has 150 students in two branches – MPC and CEC.

I am an ex-IDPL student and don’t have any contacts of my classmates. How can I help?

FAQs - Sri Sankalpam

What is Sri Sankalpam?

Sri Sankalpam is a non-profit society registered under the Societies Registration Act.

How is Sri Sankalpam related to IDPL School and Alumni?

IDPL School Alumni are the reason for all of the above. This initiative was started and being managed by alumni. A society was registered with the government for statutory purposes (School licenses, funds management, salaries etc). The name Sri Sankalpam was chosen as it aptly describes our Determination in providing educational facilities for children from financially-backward sections. For statutory purposes and bank transactions, Sri Sankalpam is used, while the name of the school was chosen Integrated Development Program for Learning (IDPL).

What is the composition of the governing body of Sri Sankalpam?

Governing body consists of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and several executive and non-executive members. Currently all these members are IDPL alumni, mostly from 1986 and 1989 batches. We strongly believe that the passion and will to support this cause is greater than holding positions within the governing body. So every Alumni member is naturally a part of this organization, as they are all the branches of the same tree - IDPL School.

Apart from the governing body, are there any other sub-committees to execute activities of the Society?

Currently the goal is to keep the structure as flat as possible so that the execution is faster and transparency is high. There are no formal sub-committees formed but 4 informal teams (Academic, School-Admin, SriSankalpam-Admin, Fund Management) have been formed with focus on their respective areas of responsibilities and accountabilities.

What are the sources of funds for the Society?

Entire society and it’s projects like running IDPL School is dependent on the donations from Alumni. Since this is a non-profit society, all funds are raised from donors who were either part of IDPL School in the past or who believe in the education for poor. Funds will also need to be raised from other education-focussed charity organizations.

How are the donations/school management activities audited?

We have THREE tier audit and evaluation mechanism to ensure the impact of the investment and accountability in utilization of funds. Following are the three tiers in this process.

  1. Internal & Process Audit System

This is conducted throughout the year in order to ensure accountability in the internal operation of the organisation

  2. Statutory Audit

It is held by the statutory auditor for finalization of balance sheet and statement of affairs. This is also done to comply with standard statutory norms.

  3. External Evaluation

Impact and outcome of various programs of Sankalpam are evaluated by external evaluation agencies having decades of relevant subject matter expertise.

Is there a mechanism to display the transparency of the activities by the Society?

All audit results will be posted on the website. In addition, every month currently there are open town hall meetings happen which are open to any alumni members who come into know the status or raise queries/questions in an open platform.
